Très Teal History

Très Teal’s original owner, Sara Weyer, had dreamed of having her own women’s clothing store since graduating from Drake University in economics/retailing. She worked at Younkers as Employment Director and Training Director before moving to Houston, TX, and living there for 28 years.

After retiring from NASA Contractors, she returned to Iowa. In 2000, her lifelong dream of owning her own store was realized.

Around the World, Sara’s first store, was located in Perry, Iowa. Sara’s dream store prospered, but a few years later Sara closed Around the World and opened Teal & Tenacious at 314 Main Street in downtown Ames.

As Teal & Tenacious grew to be a popular boutique expressing class style and sophistication, expansion was inevitable. In 2013 the lower-level of the store was renovated and began featuring leisure lifestyle clothing and select gift items. To complete the transformation, a new name of Très Teal was chosen.

In 2015, Sara sold the store to Rae VonHoldt, who had been the store manager as Sara began to think about her second retirement.

Today Très Teal is a mainstay of the Main Street Cultural District. The store hosts four seasonal events and is always working on to bring in the best designers for its customers.

Rae says that establishing a niche for women’s clothing in Ames has been an exciting and rewarding experience. She thanks the women of Ames and the surrounding area for their support of the store and is always looking for fun and new ways to reward her loyal customers.
